Pennsylvania Budget Cuts: A Message from Dean John T. Delaney
As many of you know, Pennsylvania is facing a large budget deficit and inevitable budget cuts. Governor Tom Corbett recently released a proposed budget that contains stunningly deep cuts to the support that has long been provided to public higher education. State support for Pitt is being cut by more than 52 percent. The University’s budget reduction exceeds $110 million; however, Chancellor Mark Nordenberg, Provost Patricia Beeson, and the executive administration have taken a strong stance and continue to be optimistic about the future of Pitt.

Introducing the Pitt Black MBA Network (PBAN)
The members of the class of 1972, once students navigating regression analysis, are now at the helm of corporate America, and are committed to giving back. Several members of this class have united with other Black Katz graduates to form the Pitt Black MBA Network (PBAN). Their intention is to offer their time, expertise, and resources to help lift up the next generation of Katz graduates.

The Best BIG IDEAS of 2011
Nearly 200 undergraduate and graduate students from across the University of Pittsburgh entered the 2011 Big Idea Competition. Each year, the finalists, as well as Pitt students, faculty, alumni, regional entrepreneurs, investors, and program sponsors come together for the Big Idea Networking and Awards Event to support the growing entrepreneurial community at Pitt. This experience-based learning opportunity is offered through the Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence at the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business and College of Business Administration and is supported by the Charity Randall Foundation.

The Trading Pitt
The Trading Pitt is a unique student organization within the University of Pittsburgh's Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business and College of Business Administration that focuses on the real-world application of commodity trading models. The group competed in a national simulated trading competition sponsored by the CME Group, a major player in the international commodity exchange; CQG; and the University of Houston.

Barbara Mistick (MBA '92) To Be Next President of Wilson College
Barbara Mistick, whose leadership turned around the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, was named president of Wilson College, a private liberal arts school in Chambersburg, Pa.
